Unmanned aerial systems at MILEX-2019, Minsk

Apart from other weaponry and military equipment, loads of multiple unmanned aerial systems and robotics designed both domestically and internationally were unveiled at the 9-th International Exhibition of Arms and Military Machinery, MILEX-2019, held in Minsk (the capital of Belarus) on May 15-18, 2019. At the 9-th International Exhibition of Arms and Military Machinery, MILEX-2019, 558th Aircraft Repair Plant (Baranovichi) unveiled its 1LA-150-01 aircraft, being a part of the 102 ВР Grif-100 unmanned aerial system. This is a twin-boom, high-wing monoplane with a pusher arrangement and a maximum take-off weight of about 150 kg. The aircraft can stay aloft for up to 5 hours, carrying onboard electro-optical surveillance and reconnaissance equipment, radiological and chemical reconnaissance equipment and ESM systems. Minks, May 2019 (с) Denis Fedutinov

At MILEX-2019 Beltechexport unveiled the Yastreb (Hawk) aircraft designed by the Scientific-Production Center for Multipurpose Unmanned Systems of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences. For the time being, this is the heaviest aircraft designed by the Belarus industry. The Yastreb is a twin-boom aircraft with a pusher arrangement and a maximum takeoff weight of 700 kg. The endurance is 6 hours (up to 10 hours, if a drop fuel tank is used). The aircraft can carry a maximum payload of 120 kg. The Busel MB unmanned aerial system is the next step in the Busel family drones designed by the same company as the Yastreb aircraft. The system can operate within a range of 20-70 km (depending on the installed payload). A new aerial target system was unveiled by the Unmanned Helicopters Development Lab (former INDELA, Minks). The aerial target system designed on the basis of the Berkut-BM unmanned aerial system has the ability to mimic aerial targets within a range from 0.1 m to 30 m. It can be used to support the training requirements of the aircraft missile squadrons. This is a twin-boom system with a maximum takeoff weight of 34 kg and a wingspan of 2.8 m. The State-owned Foreign Trade Unitary Enterprise BelSpetsVneshTechnika unveiled the SkyMule, a promising unmanned aerial system for deliveries. The system has a closed wing design with a wingspan of 7.5 m and H-shaped tail fins. It is equipped with a hybrid-electric powertrain, consisting of 2 puller propellers. The system has a maximum takeoff weight of 560 kg, including a payload of about 270 kg. 558th Aircraft Repair Plant (Baranovichi) unveiled its 1LA-120-K aircraft, being a part of the Kondor unmanned aerial system. The design of the aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 120 kg is similar to the 1LA-150-01 aircraft, being a part of the 102 ВР Griffon-100 unmanned aerial system, and it can be considered as its smaller version to some extent. With a maximum payload the aircraft can stay aloft for up to 3 hours. The Military Academy of Belarus unveiled the Komar (Mosquito) unmanned aerial system designed by a Minsk company Aerosystem. The mini-class system is designed as a “flying wing”. The maximum takeoff weight of the drone does not exceed 3 kg. Aerosystem also unveiled the Shershen mini-multirotor helicopter-like unmanned aerial system. The system has four puller propellers powered by electric motors. It can be used within a tactical range of 5 km. The unmanned aerial system can stay aloft for up to 40 minutes. 558th Aircraft Repair Plant unveiled at MILEX-2019 its innovation - the Sarych loitering munition. The drone can be used for reconnaissance, detection, identification and subsequent attack of various targets. The drone is launched from a catapult launcher. The drone with foldable wing panels and tail fins looks quite conventional for drones of such kind. The drone has a maximum wingspan of 2.5 m, a maximum takeoff weight of 30 kg, including a warhead of about 3 kg. The State-owned Foreign Trade Unitary Enterprise BelSpetsVneshTechnika unveiled the Bogomol self-propelled robotized anti-tank missile system. It is designed for a twenty-four-hour optical reconnaissance and destruction of fortified ground targets, tanks, armored vehicles and low altitude aerial targets in automatic mode. Within the same expo stand BelSpetsVneshTechnika unveiled its innovative robotized unmanned ground vehicle, the Berserk, designed for effective fire on live targets and low altitude unmanned aerial vehicles of enemies with a twin GShG-762 machine gun. One more innovation demonstrated by 558th Aircraft Repair Plant at MILEX-2019 was the Bekard-2 unmanned aerial system. The system is designed for imagery intelligence of the terrain in various weather conditions during day and night time. Display Design Office (Vitebsk) unveiled the Quadro-1600 unmanned aerial system designed to engage soft skinned vehicles. The helicopter-like aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 45 kg is designed as a rotary wing solution with eight puller propellers. The maximum endurance is 25 minutes. Display Design Office also unveiled a robotized unmanned ground vehicle with a remote weapon station. The vehicle of 400 kg can carry a maximum payload of 100 kg. The endurance is 20 km. The remote weapon station consists of a PK-7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun and an RPG-26 anti-tank rocket launcher (optional). The Izhevsk-based Kupol Electro-Mechanical Plant (member of Almaz-Antey Corporation) demonstrated a universal aerial target system, the Adjutant, on the static site of the Expo. Russia’s Micran Research and Production Company (Tomsk) unveiled its new multifunctional attack drone. The fixed-wing drone is designed using a standard aerodynamic solution with a mid wing configuration and T-shaped tail fins. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 40 kg, including a maximum payload of 20 kg, according to its developers. The communication range of the drone is 150 km. Belarus’s Systemtronics demonstrated a fixed-wing drone, which is a part of the TAKR-7001 tactical reconnaissance system designed by Aviation Systems (Moscow), a Russian partner of the company. The K-0106 fixed-wing drone is a high-wing monoplane with a maximum takeoff weight of 6.5 kg. The drone is powered by a puller propeller driven by an engine installed in its tail section. Systemtronics demonstrated one more helicopter-like multirotor drone, which is also a part of the TAKR-7001 system designed by Aviation Systems. The K-0107 drone has a maximum takeoff weight of 5.1 kg and can stay aloft for up to 1 hour. Both drones use one ground control station. The communication system enables to maintain control over the drones at a distance of up to 15 km. China-Belarus Aero-Technology and System Joint Company unveiled on the Expo site the UVH-290E helicopter-like unmanned system, previously exhibited by UAVOS (formally American company related to Kvand, Tiber and some other firms) at UMEX-2018 in Abu Dhabi. The drone is designed as a single rotor helicopter with a tail rotor. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 87 kg, including a payload of 5 kg. The drone can stay aloft for up to 5 hours. China-Belarus Aero-Technology and System Joint Company also demonstrated the SITARIA-E fixed-wing unmanned system on the Expo site, which is also designed by UAVOS. The system has a twin boom configuration and a pusher propeller. The engine is powered by the batteries. Flying with 10 kg of payload, the UAS can achieve a flight time of 3 hours. The communications can be carried out using the command link in a maximum range of 60 km. All flight stages can be performed automatically. The same companies also demonstrated the UVH-EL helicopter-like unmanned aerial system. It is also manufactured by UAVOS, judging by the official website of the company. The drone is designed as a single rotor helicopter with a tail rotor. An electric engine is used as a powertrain. Avia Tech Systems demonstrated the BELAR YS MALE unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone looks very similar to the Yabhon Flash 20 manufactured by ADCOM Systems, a company based in the UAE, and Avia Tech Systems allegedly acts as a representative of the aforementioned company in Belarus. The fixed-wing drone has a tandem wing configuration with a wingspan of 11.5 m. The drone can stay aloft for more than 24 hours.
